Security Guard Shoots, Detains Shooter at D.C. Apartment Building
A security guard shot and detained a man who opened fire on him late Monday in the Brightwood neighborhood of Northwest D.C.
Renard Hampton, 41, approached guard Roland Thomas outside the Fort Stevens Place apartments on the 1300 block of Fort Stevens Drive NW just before midnight late Monday, police said.
Thomas was shot in the neck, fired back and managed to tackle and hold Hampton, police said.
The guard has worked for P-Change Protective Services for the past four years, according to his coworker Branden Greenfield-Logan, who said he thought guards don’t get the credit they deserve.
“Because we’re not technically police officers, we kind of get cast aside,” he said.
Hampton was charged with assault with intent to kill.
News4 is told Thomas is in stable condition.
